Failure, Discovery and The Path to Success

Today, I have been looking at the results of a small facebook ad campaign I started last week. The initial results were not as I had hoped.  Some may even say that it was a failure. I do not look at it that way. For me this is the beginning of success. All success begins with learning and all learning begins with failure.

These days I am spending much of my time with digital marketing and the pay per click advertising that I am using to drive traffic to my offers and landing pages. I am using both facebook and Google ads, where the key to success is to always be testing and working to find the right combination of ad headline, ad text and image to create an ad that makes money. All you need is one really good ad to become successful. Fortunes have been made with just one really good ad.

Testing and refining an ad is an art and like all art success does not happen with the first attempt. Great marketers, are always testing, always comparing one ad to another, always looking to fine tune and improve. For inspiration I often look to the Martial Arts. The great practitioners of the Martial Arts believe that the pursuit of excellence is a never ending journey of discovery, each day they seek improvement in their technique and to perfect their art.

All learning begins with a certain amount of failure. We all make mistakes, nobody does something perfectly the first time. Thomas Edison once said “ I have not failed I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”.  Learning is a journey of discovery, a process of making mistakes and using that knowledge to make improvements.

Failure is not the opposite of success it is a part of success. Failure is often celebrated as a tool for learning and for business success. Failure has it own holiday; October 13 is The International Day For Failure

Failure has a facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/DayForFailure/.  Failure should always be used as a part of learning in business and life. Failure leads to great solutions, great products and services.

In life and business I have always admired the words of Winston Churchill “ Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Yes, it takes courage to continue and to not give up. The hall of fame professional basketball player and now businessman Michael Jordan is not one to stop trying “ I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying “

Now as I work to improve on my facebook advertising, I am not afraid of failure, I am inspired knowing that my next ad will be better than the last and that each day I will learn something new.

“ Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new” – Albert Einstein
